St. Jerome’s Grotto

Adjacent to the grotto of the Nativity, where Jesus was born, is Saint Jerome’s Grotto.  It was in this cave that St. Jerome translated the Bible from its original languages of Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic into Latin.  This translation, known as the Vulgate, became the official translation of the church for the next 1500 years.  We celebrated the mass for Christmas in Saint Jerome’s Grotto.
