The Angelus
We returned to the Basilica of the Annunciation at noon to hear the solemn praying of the Angelus. The Franciscan priests and brothers, who are the custodians of the Basilica, and many of the holy sites in the holy land, lead the prayers. The Angelus commemorates the event of the Incarnation. “The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary, and she conceived by the Holy Spirit. Behold, the Handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to thy word. And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.” “Pour forth we beseech thee oh, Lord, thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the incarnation of Christ, thy Son, was made known by the message of an Angel, may by his passion and cross, be brought to the glory of his resurrection, through Christ, our Lord, amen.”
