Thanks!

 Dear friends, thank you for following my blog and for praying for me while I was on the pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It was an incredible trip!  The Holy Land is known as the “fifth gospel” because, being present within the culture and the geography in which the Gospels were written provides an additional perspective that brings to life the word of God in a new way.  I am looking forward to how the readings for Holy Week hit me in a new way after visiting the places where the events of the Passion and Resurrection of our Lord unfolded.  

I will continue to use this space going forward to share events that are happening at St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Bensalem and other events of interest in my pilgrimage of faith with you all.

We have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament all day today until Benediction at 8 PM.   We are having a penance service for religious education students this evening beginning at 6:45 PM. There will be nine confessors present.  All are welcome to come to confession tonight.  God is good… all the time! All the time… God is good!

Pilgrimage to Rome!

 +m Dear Friends in Christ/Queridos Amigos en Cristo,  I am on my way to Rome, Italy for a pilgrimage!  I am leading a pilgrimage inspired by my patron saint, St. Philip Neri, the "2nd Apostle of Rome."  St. Philip regularly took his devotees to a walking pilgrimage to the 7 Pilgrim Churches in Rome.  We will see all of the Pilgrim Churches which include the Major Basilicas and 3 minor basilicas of historical significance.  Unlike St. Philip, we will not be walking or doing them all in one day!  I hope to share pictures with commentary as I go, similar to the posts that I published on the pilgrimage to the Holy Land last February.  I ask for your prayers for me and my fellow travelers, which include my mother and father.  I will be keeping all of you and the parishioners of St. Charles Borromeo parish in my prayers along the way.  During the trip, I will see the church in Rome where St. Charles Borromeo's heart is preserved.  I will conclude my travels by visiting St. Cha

A tour of plazas and fountains (January 12)

The Spanish steps and the Piazza de Spagna Column and monument commemorating the Immaculate Conception.  The Holy Father comes here each December 8 to pray and to place a wreath of flowers on the statue of Our Lady.     Trevi Fountain in the Piazza di Trevi.  The fountains of Rome are where the ancient aqua ducts built by the Romans come to the surface to provide drinking water to the city.  The tradition of throwing thee coins in the fountain to come back to Rome comes from the Roman soldiers making sacrifices to the god of the river for safe travel and to return home to Rome.   Piazza di Pantheon The Pantheon, built as a cylindrical domed temple to "All the gods",  is a very unique structure.  There are no other round temples in the ancient world.  Modern science and engineering are still trying to determine how the building has remained intact after more than 2000 years.  Now the Pantheon is a church dedicated to Mary and All the Martyrs.  Michelangelo studied the Pantheon

 +m I arrived in Rome yesterday afternoon.  We are staying at a "Casa" for pilgrims run by the Salesian Sisters of the Sacred Heart.  It is common that religious communities have houses of hospitality in Rome as a ministry and a way to raise funds for their congregation or order.  The lodgings are simple and perfect for the pilgrim - single beds, no TV in the room, no bar.  The house has a chapel and a great view from the 4th floor terrace.  Here is the chapel where I said Mass yesterday for the group.  Below is a picture of me and my parents on the terrace.
